I designed the wing mold core, and learned about designing parts for CNC machining and mold geometries to create good injection molded parts.

Injection Molding

For my computer-aided design and manufacturing class, our team of four received a sketch by a 4th grader at a local elementary school, and turned it into an injection-molded plastic toy. We also presented our mold design and plastic parts to a panel of four industry judges.

The sketch and final product are shown below.

I worked with my teammate, Haley, to design the wing mold in Unigraphics NX 10. I then used the software to write the G-code for a Haas Mini Mill to make the core.

I learned how injection molding parameters affect part quality using a Milacron machine. We also performed a 50-part production run to analyze part variation.
